Top 10 Gifts Your Favorite Reader will Love!

So Valentines Day got me thinking about gifts for readers. Your favorite reader deserves a bookish gift, even your favorite reader is you! OK, let me be honest. I was thinking about some treats for myself, because February is the pit of winter despair in upstate New York, and I was looking for a little pick-me-up to make it through until the clocks spring ahead in March.

But why do all that on-line browsing/shopping and not share the wealth of ideas that I found? I can’t buy all the things, but maybe my search will have turned up the perfect thing for you to buy your favorite reader? And yes, it really is perfectly acceptable to if your favorite reader is you!

So here are a few my favorite finds.

eReaders

My dearly beloved Kindle was on its last legs. In fairness, I got it used on eBay about a decade ago, so it rendered great service. But my inner historian recognized it belongs in a museum, not on my beside table. I ended up going with the top of the line Kindle Paperwhite, and I love it!

You can check out eReader options I found searching on Amazon (including non-Kindle ereaders).

Book Journals

I have been meaning to start a book journal for along time to keep track of books I have read, books I mean to read, ideas about books so I can remember details when I leave a review (remember, leaving reviews is just as a big a help to an author as buying their book – and many would even say the review is more valuable since it helps other find the book!).

I am a big fan of convenience, so I love spiral bound journals for easy writing. But there are plenty of great book journals available in all formats, with everything from basic to elaborate prompts. Of course, you can also just use a basic blank notebook. If you like the fun of a purpose-made one, you can check out my Amazon search for a bunch below.

Book Jewelry

When I was in grad school, I created a lot of jewelry to keep myself sane. I needed a tactile hobby to get myself out of my own head for a while. I particularly enjoy themed jewelry. It is fun and cute, and it can be very personal. Indeed, I paid someone on Etsy to make earrings that were perfect miniatures of my first book cover, and they are my favorite earrings on the planet!

Themed jewelry makes a great personal gift, so if you are still Valentine’s Day shopping, or birthday, or any other holiday, check out some book themed jewelry for your favorite reader.

Noise Cancelling Headphones

Let’s face it, not everyone reads quietly to relax. Sometimes, they make noise. For your favorite reader to read with other people around, noise cancelling headphones are the answer.

These were another grad school game-changer for me, since I needed to read most of my waking hours, and for some reason, not everyone in my household was silent for those hours. Go figure. They are also great for travel, and they cancel out road noise and engine noise really well. And there are lots of styles to choose from. I have both ear bud and full coverage ones.

Reading Mugs

You cannot have too many reading mugs. They are special. My current favorite is insulated and has a lid, so I don’t spill on my book. Winter reading requires a warm beverage. Non-negotiable.

Book Props for Reading in Bed

Reading marathons can be tiring, and a book prop or pillow can help you push through before someone spoils the ending for you. A nifty appliance that holds your book up and open for you is also just a fun splurge, and therefore a nice gift.

Warm Cozy Blankets

These are synonymous with reading in winter, yes? I have a favorite reading blanket that my spouse and cat also like. I am contemplating a reading/TV viewing blanket of his own for my spouse so he stops swiping mine. Though in fairness, the cat swipes it more often. She is next on the blanket gift list. I do love the wide range of cozy blankets you can find these days. Light and fluffy, heavy and cozy, and everything in between.

Reading Pillow

It is not age that makes me enjoy a neck pillow for reading on the sofa. It is not. I also enjoy a pillow-chair sort of thing for reading in bed. I was looking for a new one, and I discovered the options have greatly expanded since I last got one. It will take me a little while to sort through my options. Or I may get more than one. 😊

Reading Lights

For some reason, my spouse does not always like to have the lights on while I am reading and he is trying to sleep. OK, fine, I get it. So I am also shopping for a reading light so I can give him the gift of sleep, while giving myself the gift of reading.

Historical Romance Novels

Saving the most important for last, a good historical romance is a great gift, and especially for Valentines Day. Do not look at a pile of books your favorite reader has not yet read and make the egregious error of thinking that means they don’t need more books. Lungs always need more air. Readers always need more books. Always! Here is my latest book search.
